Aussie GST Calculator – Privacy Policy

Overview

Aussie GST Calculator (“the App”) is developed by Cody Media Design. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

The short version: We don’t collect, store, or share any of your personal data. Everything stays on your device (and optionally syncs via your own iCloud account).

Information We Do NOT Collect

The App does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Usage analytics or behavioural data
  • Financial information or actual transaction data
  • Any data to third-party servers

We have no servers. We have no databases. We have no way to access your data.

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device only using Apple’s standard storage mechanisms:

Preferences (UserDefaults)

  • Theme setting: Your choice of light, dark, or system appearance
  • Accent colour: Your selected colour theme (blue, purple, rose, emerald, or amber)
  • Region selection: Your chosen country for GST calculation (Australia or New Zealand)
  • App behaviour (macOS only): Whether the app runs in menu bar only or standalone mode

Calculation History (UserDefaults)

  • Your last 10 copied calculations, including:
    • The input amount
    • The calculation mode (excluding or including GST)
    • The selected country at the time of calculation
    • The calculated values (price excluding GST, price including GST, GST amount)
    • The timestamp of the calculation

This data is stored solely to provide you with quick access to your recent calculations. It is not transmitted anywhere.

iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the App uses iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync your calculation history across your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account.

How iCloud Sync Works

  • Your calculation history is stored in your personal iCloud account
  • Only you can access this data through your iCloud account
  • The data syncs automatically between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac
  • We cannot access your iCloud data

Disabling iCloud Sync

You can disable iCloud sync for the App by:

  1. Going to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
  2. Finding the App in the list
  3. Toggling off iCloud access

If iCloud is disabled, your calculation history will only be stored locally on each device.

Siri and Shortcuts

The App supports Siri Shortcuts to allow voice-activated GST calculations. When you use Siri:

  • Voice processing is handled entirely by Apple
  • We do not receive, store, or process any voice data
  • Siri interactions are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy

Third-Party Services

The App does not use any third-party services, including:

  • Analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
  • Advertising networks
  • Crash reporting services
  • Social media integrations
  • Any external APIs or servers

Data Security

Your data is protected by:

  • Apple’s built-in security: All local data is stored using Apple’s secure UserDefaults system
  • Device encryption: Your data is encrypted when your device is locked
  • iCloud encryption: If using iCloud sync, your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple’s security infrastructure
  • No network transmission: Apart from iCloud sync (which uses Apple’s secure infrastructure), the App never transmits data over the internet

Children’s Privacy

The App does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The App is a simple calculator tool with no user accounts, social features, or data collection of any kind.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

As the App does not collect any contact information, we cannot notify you of changes directly. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store update notes.

Your Rights

Since we don’t collect any personal data, there is no personal data for us to:

  • Provide to you
  • Correct
  • Delete
  • Export

Your calculation history and preferences are stored only on your device (and your iCloud account if enabled). You can delete this data at any time by:

  • Deleting individual history items within the App
  • Using the “Clear All” function in the App
  • Deleting and reinstalling the App
  • Disabling iCloud sync and removing the App’s iCloud data

Additional Information for Specific Regions

Australia and New Zealand

This App complies with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. As we do not collect personal information, these regulations have limited applicability to our App.

European Union (GDPR)

For users in the European Union, we confirm that:

  • We do not collect personal data as defined by the GDPR
  • We do not use cookies or tracking technologies
  • We do not process data for profiling or automated decision-making
  • No data is transferred outside of your device (except to your own iCloud account via Apple’s infrastructure)

California (CCPA)

For California residents:

  • We do not sell personal information
  • We do not collect personal information as defined by the CCPA
  • There are no categories of personal information to disclose
